I’m surprised that the 3-axis gyroscope just kind of snuck in… both by Apple and in this market. It seems like the kind of whiz-banggery that Apple likes to tout, but is it a solution in search of a problem?

And I’m even more surprised that the market, and the media, and our discussion so far, has missed mirrored video out. (Which Apple did at least spend 1 or 2 Keynote slides on.) I’ll go out on a limb and say that is the real game-changer for education.

My vote would be to see if v.3 has Retina Display, carbon fiber body, Thunderbolt port or USB port, SD card slot. And maybe shift upwards in flash memory storage to 128 GB or eve 256 GB. iPad apps tend to be a little larger installs, especially ones that need to add additional content (such as some mapping apps. The maps are larger for instance on an iPad so are larger files. And all the media creation now possible with new version of iMovie and GarageBand begs for more internal storage, or for the iPad to have an SD card slot to easily store large files.

New version has five out of eight of the predicted features. Nice! I do think we will see v.3 in about six months or so. This market is very hot right now and Apple will pull out all the stops to keep well ahead of the competition I would imagine. Also, I think display panel supply also was a factor in Retina displays not making it into this version. How about that nifty new case. Quite innovative for a case/cover.

True, all of it.
What should we add to an iPad 3 market, then?
amichaelberman   •   Tue Mar 01 2011 at 02:23pm CST
So does this market close once Apple makes its announcement tomorrow?
BryanAlexander   •   Tue Mar 01 2011 at 02:40pm CST
Yes, Michael, once it’s pinned down.
This is one market we tied to an event, rather than a date.

Just announced, time to close.

Whoa. Would that take the place of the rumored iPad 3, then?

Josh Kim assumes cameras in a recent post . His other desiderata are cool, too, but I thought it significant that cameras were not blue-sky.

SD I believe, but I think a USB port is very unlikely given Apple’s past comments and direction.

Interesting news from CES regarding iPad 2. Looks like it very well will be a slimmer, thinner design along with the dual cameras. This is based on a vendor who claims to have an iPad 2 case on hand at CES.

Regarding SD, I would say Apple is onboard with this. They have built SD slots into almost all their laptops and iMacs now. And the support the new SDXC format of card supporting higher capacity cards and faster transfer speeds.

I know there has been talk of a thinner, lighter form factor for iPad 2, so we might see this as a response to the lighter Kindle and other e-readers. The screen size would stay the same, but the case would be thinner and flat on the back, so the iPad won’t wobble around when placed on a flat surface. I also would like to see an SD card slot added so the camera connection kit would no longer be necessary to carry around.

I think you’re right on the size issue. Tech is all about anorexia, from our hardware obsessions to Second Life avatars.

Is Apple pro or anti-SD these days?
